India Successfully Test-Fires Agni-5 Ballistic Missile : India on 3rd June 2018 successfully test fired Land Based ballistic Missile Agni-V from Abdul Kalam Island (Formerly Wheeler Island) off the Odisha Coast. It has a range of 5000 Kms. Earlier Missile Range was 4000 kms. of Agni-IV.
The surface-to-surface missile was launched with the help of a mobile launcher from launch pad number 4 of the Integrated Test Range at Dr Abdul Kalam Island, earlier known as Wheeler Island, in the Bay of Bengal at 9:48 am. This was the sixth trial of the state-of-the-art Agni-5 ballistic missile.
Earlier trials was conducted in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 & in January 2018. Last trial was conducted recently in January 2018.
The three-stage, 17-metre tall, two-metre wide Agni-5 missile is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead of about 1.5 tonnes.
Other Land Ballistic Missiles are- Prithvi-I (150 Kms.), Prithvi-II (250-350 Kms), Prithvi-III (350-600 Kms), Agni-I (700-1250 Kms), Agni-II (2000-3000 Kms), Agni-III (3000-3500 Kms), Agni-IV (4000 Kms), Agni-V (5000-8000 Kms.)
After successfully test fires of AGNI-V, India became the member of Inter Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) club, after US, China, Russia & France.
